SAINT FRANCIS
OF ASSISI
(Assisi 1181/2 – 1226)

The 4th of October the whole Catholic Church celebrates the liturgical memory of the saint who’s been proclaimed Saint Patron of Italy in 1939 from Pope Pio XIII
Known as the  “poverello of Assisi” , the tomb of St. Francis is a destination of pilgrimage for tens of thousands of religious.

The town of Assisi, thanks to its famous citizen, has become a simbol of peace, especially after having hosted the 2 biggest meetings of religions in the world, promoted by Pope John Paul II in 1986 and 2002.
Beside his spiritual contribution, St. Francis , with his “ Canticle of Creatures “, is known as the starter of the italian literal tradition.
Dante Alighieri will dedicate him the XI song of Heaven.
